Tourism revenue up by 11.9%

Revenue from tourism is estimated by the Cyprus Statistical Service to reach about €2.36 million in 2016, recording an annual increase of 11.9%, according to data released on Wednesday.

In a press release, Cyprus Tourism Organisation says that “an increase in revenue was achieved despite a drop by 6.6% of the average expenditure per tourist, down from €794 in 2015 to €742 in 2016, which is largely due to a global tendency for a reduced stay from 9.9 days in 2015 to 9.5 days in 2016.”

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey revenue from tourism in December 2016 came to €50.9 million compared to €52.6 million at the same month of the previous year, recording a drop of 3.2%.

Tourism revenue in the period January – December 2016 is calculated to reach €2,363.4 million compared to €2,112.1 million at the same period of the previous year, recording an increase of 11.9%.
