Car registrations back to 2010-levels

Car registration increase for the third consecutive year in 2016, according to Statistical Service`s report for the period January- December 2016.

Τotal registrations of motor vehicles increased by 31,4% to 33.805 in 2016, from 25.735 vehicles in the same period of 2015.

Passenger saloon cars increased by 30,3% to 27.956, from 21.462 in January-December 2015. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 12.468 or 44,6% were new and 15.488 or 55,4% were used cars.

Motor coaches and buses registered in January-December 2016 increased to 133, from 82 in the same period of 2015.

Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 42,5% to 3.072 in 2016, compared to 2.156 in January-December 2015.

Light goods vehicles increased by 36,3% to 2.585 in 2016, from 1.896 in 2015.

Heavy goods vehicles increased by 59,7% to 297 in January-December 2016, from 186 in January-December 2015.

Road tractors (units of trailers) increased by 156,8% to 190 in January-December 2016, from 74 in January-December 2015.

Mopeds < 50cc increased by 24,7% to 192 in January-December 2016, compared to 154 in January-December 2015.

Mechanised cycles > 50cc increased by 37,7% to 2.303 in 2016, compared to 1.673 in 2015.

European Union member countries were the main suppliers of motor vehicles in Cyprus during 2016. The EU accounted for 56,4% of the total registrations, while Japan/s share stood at 30,3%.
