Recovery in the construction sector is not yet to come, since the cement sales in the market continue to drop.

According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, the cement sales fell in the first two months of the year, possibly attributable to the deterioration of the weather conditions.

Specifically, cement sales in January – February 2010 dropped 21% to 183.5 thousand from 243.2 thousand in the corresponding period of 2009. In January 2010, the decline reached 30.4% and in February it fell to 18.8%. In the second month of the year, sales decreased to 99.4 thousand tons from 122.4 thousand in the corresponding month of 2009.

The downward trend in cement sales follows a difficult 2009, when sales had dropped 25.8%.
