Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Antonis Paschalides talked about Cyprus’s effort to facilitate the issue of visas in Russia, stressing that Russia is a big market and Cyprus and the EU must take advantage of this.

Responding to the journalists’ questions after the meeting with the Greek Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Georgios Nikitiades, who is on a 2-day visit on the island, Mr. Paschalides said that he will depart for Moscow on Monday.

The seminar in Moscow and Rostov is organized by the Commerce Ministry and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and during his visit to Russia the Minister will have contacts with officials from the Russian Chamber and other Russian investors.

The Minister said that the seminar will present the advantages that Cyprus has as an investing destination.

In relation to the issue of visas, the Minister said that this concerns Russia and other countries too, while Cyprus will be benefited much since “a large number of Russians are discouraged from coming to Cyprus due to the visa and the relevant expenses”.

Mr. Paschalides also referred to the efforts for the support by other EU member states in relation to the visa issue.
