Zeta to intervene in CCB conflict

18/12/2015 16:10
Labour minister Miss Zeta Emilianidou is expected to make an intervention next Wednesday in an effort to end the deadlock in the confrontation between the central cooperative bank and the banking union ETYK.

Miss Emilianidou communicated this morning with both the heads of CCB and ETYK expressing her intention to intervene in their conflict.

She stated to StockWatch that both sides responded favourably adding that a meeting with ETYK has been arranged for next Wednesday at 9 am.

Miss Emilianidou asked both sides to show calmness pointing out that they must exhibit good will so as for labour piece to return for the benefit of both the Cooperative and the personnel.

Today the 48-hour strike by CCB staff members of ETYK comes to an end.

Finance minister Haris Georgiades today again called ETYK's strike unacceptable while DYSI president Mr Averof Neofytou strongly criticized ETYK this morning.

ETYK general secretary Mr Xristos Panayides stated to StockWatch that the union has responded positively to the labour minister's invitation and stressed the need for a constructive approach within the framework of respect of the procedures and industrial relations code.

ETYK responds to MoF and Averof

ETYK with a new circular to its members, responding to criticism especially from the MoF and Mr Averof Neofytou, points out that the union accepted to sign a three-year agreement for the period 2014-2016 since last May without demanding any increases at all, as it did with other banks.

"Through our proposal for an agreement the union gave up on salary increases and other benefits that would reduce CCB's costs by about €4 mn" it is added.

The union of banking employees stresses that even now it is ready to accept and implement that agreement.

"Consequently any other statement on facts is not true" it says.

It afterwards refers to the agreement that it alleges to have achieved with the management and which due to a higher intervention the management was not allowed to implement".

ETYK wonders how these facts escaped MoF's and Mr Averof's attention and they state untrue facts.

ETYK insists that it did not demand and is not demanding an increase of the employees' benefits but reductions.
