Employment on the rise

Employment in Cyprus is on the rise according to Eurostat data released today, boosting estimates that the situation in the labor market is slowly but gradually improving.

Based on the figures, the number of employed in Cyprus increased by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2015 compared to the third quarter of 2014. In the second quarter of 2015 employment grew by 0.4% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2014.

As regards the euro area, employment recorded growth of 1.1% compared to the third quarter of 2014, while in the EU employment growth also stood at 1.1%.

Employment rose in all EU countries except Croatia (-0.3%).

In Greece, employment increased by 1.9% in the third quarter of 2015 compared with an increase of 2.4% in the second quarter.

According to Eurostat data, during the third quarter of 2015, 229.8 mn men and women were employed in the EU, of which 151.5 mn were in the eurozone.
