CCB new capital from special fund

The additional funds of €200 mn to be injected into the Central Cooperative Bank, will come from a new special fund to be established to recapitalize banks.

The government seeks to institutionalize through a set of five bills that were submitted to the parliament today, the process of recapitalization of the CCB (and of banks) and define the way of financing the fund to be established, through the special tax imposed on banks' deposits.

The independent recapitalization fund will initially be funded by the government with €200 mn an amount to be gradually recovered from the special tax paid by credit institutions on the basis of their deposits.

The legislative framework must be finalised by December 10 the latest.
