Ways to promote China investments

A meeting took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss ways that would enhance relations between Cyprus and China in the fields of tourism, investments and economy.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the Presidents of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

One of the issues discussed was the facilitation of the procedure for visas for Chinese tourists with the aim to increase their number from 1,000 today to 300,000 visitors per year.

Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Alexandros Zenon told journalists after the meeting that China is one of the most important economies in the world, noting that the government aims to enhance its relations with China in the sectors of the economy, tourism and investments.

He recalled that this October the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades will pay China a visit accompanied by a business delegation.

During the meeting they decided a number of practical measures to facilitate the visa procedures for Chinese citizens in the framework of the national and European regulations.

In his statements, CTO President Aggelos Loizou said that the aim is to attract 300,000 tourists from China, adding that it is important that practical problems are solved.

President of the CCCI Phedias Pilides said that the meeting was very constructive and that they took some decisions that could bring about practical solutions.
