House President Demetris Syllouris is flying to Australia on Friday, following an invitation by Tony Smith and Scott Ryan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate.
The delegation comprises MPs Nikos Tornaritis, Andreas Fakontis, Zacharias Koulias, Elias Myrianthous, Linos Papayiannis, Annita Demetriou, Costas Costa and Marinos Mousiouttas as well as Chair of CIPA Michalis Michail.
Syllouris and the delegation will visit Melbourne first where they will hold contacts with Colin Brooks, member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Shadow Minister Neil Angus, Victoria MP Cat Theofanous and former MP Theo Theofanous. Syllouris will deliver a speech at an entrepreneurs’ Forum organized by Cyprus Commerce Chamber of Australia.
In Canberra the delegation will meet with Governor David Hurley as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate.
The agenda includes meetings with MPs Anthony Albanese, Tim Wilson, Terri Butler and the members of the Friendship Group of Australia-South Europe , the Chair and Vice Chair of Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Commerce, David Fawcett and Nick Champion, and Shadow Minister of Finance and Civil Service Katy Gallagher, Shadow Minister of Commerce Madeleine King and Shadow Deputy Minister of Commerce and Investment Mark Coulton.
The delegation will also hold meetings at the Foreign Ministry with Vice Minister for Europe and Latin America Cathy Raper and the Head Negotiator for EU-Australia relations Alison Burrows.
Cyprus High Commissioner Martha Mavrommati will host an event in honor of the delegation.
In Sydney the Cyprus House delegation will meet with Heads of Federal Parliament and Archbishop Makarios as well as the Head of the Australia -Europe Business Council. The delegation will also visit the Children’s Cancer Institute of the New South Whales University where they will meet with Professor Dr Maria Kavallari.
Syllouris and the Mps will also meet with Cyprus diaspora groups.
The delegation returns home on February 15.
