The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades, accompanied by the members of the Cypriot delegation, was today officially welcomed by the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, at the Palace in Manama.
After the official welcoming ceremony, the two leaders and the delegations of the two countries held official talks and signed agreements.
Issues related to the Cyprus problem, the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Bahrain, the EU-Bahrain relations, regional and international matters, as well as the economy were discussed.
On the part of Cyprus, present at the talks were the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, the Government spokesman Mr Nikos Christodoulides, the Ambassador of the Republic to Bahrain Mr Elpidoforos Economou and other officials. On the part of Bahrain the Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa and the Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed AL Khalifa were present.
Later on, at a special ceremony the President of the Republic decorated the King with the Grand Collar of the National Order of Makarios the Third and the King of Bahrain decorated the President with The Order of Al Khal?fa decoration.
Afterwards, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and officials of Bahrain signed with the Minister of Finance of Bahrain a bilateral Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, with the Minister of Justice an Agreement on Fighting Terrorism and Organized Crime, with the Minister of Transportations and Telecommunications an Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding on Air Services and with the Minister of Health of Bahrain a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of Health.
Later on, the President and the Cypriot delegation attended an official lunch hosted by the King of Bahrain in honor of the President of the Republic.
Tonight, the President will host a reception in honor of the Cypriot community of Bahrain and will attend a dinner hosted in honor by the Honorary Consul of Cyprus in Bahrain Mr Stefanos Zachariades.
