Four new cases of people with COVID-19 were detected after conducting 2,845 laboratory tests, Cyprus authorities announced on Sunday. The total number of people detected to be COVID-19 positive in Cyprus rose to 1,487.

Of the four cases announced, three were detected among passengers. In particular, one case concerns a Greek citizen residing permanently in Cyprus, who arrived from Athens on August 27 without showing any symptoms. Two more cases are passengers of a flight that arrived in Paphos from Budapest on August 29. One of them is a British citizen who resides permanently in Cyprus and the second is a Cypriot citizen. Both of them were symptoms-free and they are not related to each other.

The fourth case was detected after a referral by a GP. This person had no symptoms.

An announcement by the Ministry of Health says that one case was detected after testing 207 samples after referrals from GPs. Three more cases were detected after testing 2,074 samples from passengers arriving in Cyprus.

No positive cases were found among 334 people who tested on a private initiative, from 148 samples tested at the Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals and from 82 samples tested in the framework of contact-tracing.

Six COVID-19 patients are hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, one of them at the ICU. One patient remains intubated at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU.
