Wind-E will represent Cyprus at the world's largest green business ideas competition

A start-up from Cyprus will compete at the Climate Launchpad Global Grand final on the 30th of September and 1st& 2nd of October. Climate Launchpad is the world’s largest green business idea competition in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development.

Team Wind-E competed with 42 start-ups from 14 countries from Eastern Europe, Middle East and Central Asia at the Regional Final which washeldvirtually on the 17th& 18th of September. Not only did they win one of the 16 tickets to the Grand Final, but also placed 2nd in their thematic category.

Cyprus was represented at the Regional Final by the 3 teams that won the Climate Launchpad National Final. The three teams were 1) Team ‘Qonductive’ who create bioplastic printed circuit boards by eco-friendly biodegradable agricultural by-products, 2) Team ‘Wind-E’ who created a smart portable wind turbine for charging any electronic device and 3) Team ‘Motivw’ that design street wear from up cycled military surplus.

The top-16 ideas of the Grand Final will win access to the Climate-KIC’s Accelerator, a ‘real life business school’ that focuses on the development and commercialization of cleantech start-upsand provides access to further training and funding. The first winner of the Grand Final also receives a cash prize of €10,000, the runner up gets €5,000 and the team that finishes in thethirdplace wins €2,500.

The Global Grand final will be held virtually, and access will be free. The competition will be steamed live on the website of the Global Grand Final: https://globalfinal.climatelaunchpad.org/ .

The competition is being organised in Cyprus for the seventh consecutive year by Chrysalis LEAP in cooperation with Climate-KIC, EU’s main climate innovation initiative.
