Authorities announced 2 deaths and 164 new COVID cases

Cyprus Ministry of Health announced 2 deaths and 164 new COVID cases on Thursday, bringing total of cases in the Republic to 29,636 and total number of fatalities to 178.

Health Ministry said in a press release that 184 patients are getting treatment in hospitals island wide and 58 are in serious condition.

The 164 cases were detected from a total of 11,170 tests (PCR and rapid tests) and the positivity rate stands at 1.47%.

The deceased are a male, 77 years of age, with underlying conditions who was at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital and a male , 84 years old, with underlying conditions who was getting treatment at Larnaka General Hospital.

The figures show that 119 of the deceased are male (67%), and 59 female (33%) with a median age of 80 years.

Thirty of the 58 patients who are in serious condition are intubated, 7 are in an ICU and 21 in an ACU (Advanced Care Unit).

The 164 cases were detected as follows:

56 from 314 samples from the contact tracing process, 1 from 135 tests at airports, 36 from 877  samples taken on private initiative, 4 from 278 tests done at Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 2 from 2 tests done at migrants` centers and 65 from 9,431 rapid tests.

No positive case was detected from 133 samples taken from GP referrals and public clinics` testing.
