Retail trade volume down

Retail Trade continued its downward trajectory in the first eleven months of 2020 affected by the coronavirus pandemic and restrictive measures to contain the spread of the virus.

According to provisional estimates published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat) the index of turnover volume in retail trade dropped by an annual 2.7% in the period of January – November 2020, whereas the index of turnover value in retail trade declined by 4.1% for the same period.

In November, when new restrictions were imposed in the Districts of Limassol and Pafos, in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19, the index of turnover volume in retail trade dropped by 3.2% compared with November 2019 to 120.9 units.

According to Cystat, in November 2020 the index of turnover value in retail trade marked a reduction of 3.8% compared with November 2019 declining to 116.2 units.
