A. Kyprianou: CAir strike is untimely and unnecessary

23/05/2003 09:15
The 6-hour strike measures to take place on Monday are untimely and unnecessary, said the Cyprus Airways Deputy Chairman, Achilleas Kyprianou, stressing that the strikes will hit the company in a period when it makes immense efforts to deal with the impacts from the war in Iraq.

Mr. Kyprianou has urged the trade unions to act in a spirit of responsibility and self-restraint and proceed to a dialogue without the threat of the strike measures and insisted that Cyprus Airways “did not refuse to discuss the renewal of the union contracts”, but the Company had simply asked for some time.

Mr. Kyprianou noted that the reason for this rush is incomprehensible, as renewals usually take place long after their expiry and suggested to lift the strike measures and start a productive dialogue.
