Increased CPI for May

The Consumer Price Index, according to latest information published by Cystat for May 2002 increased by 0,06 units or 0,05% to 110,40 units compared to 110,34 in April 2002. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of petroleum products, certain fresh fruit and fresh milk. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and potatoes.

For the period January-May 2002 the CPI recorded an increase of 2,56% compared to the corresponding period of 2001. The rate of increase of the Index for May 2002 compared to May 2001 was 2,35%.
More specifically, the Food & non-alcoholic beverages index equalled 113,81 units, Alcoholic beverages & tobacco 126,69 units, Clothing and footwear 97,91 units, Housing, water, electricity & gas 113,30 units, Furnishings, household equipment & supplies 101,32 units, Health 120,34 units, Transport 109,43 units, Communication 80,83 units, Recreation & culture 100,69 units, Education 119,11 units, Restaurants & hotels 119,42 units, Miscellaneous goods & services 113,82 units.
