Measures to boost tourism

06/02/2002 11:14
In view of reduced reservations for the coming tourist season, the House Communications Committee decided during its meeting yesterday to propose to the House extension of the abolition of passenger and landing fees for the month of May, as an incentive to tour operators. Extension of this facility for another month will carry a cost of around CYP 3 million to the state.

Figures on the latest bookings show a reduction of around 35%, with figures from the United Kingdom showing a decrease for April of 65% and for May of around 42%.

Visitors to Cyprus in 2001 reached 2.696.732, an increase of 0.4% compared to 2000 with revenues reaching CYP 1.27 billion, a 7% increase compared to the previous year.
