CPI up by 1.26% for October

The Consumer Price Index for October 2001 increased by 1,37 units or 1,26% to 110,07 units compared to 108,70 in September 2001, according to the latest data published by the Statistical Service. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh fruit and vegetables, potatoes and certain clothing and footwear items. A decrease has been recorded in telephone charges.
For the period January-October 2001 the CPI recorded an increase of 1,93% compared to the corresponding period of 2000. The rate of increase of the Index for October 2001 compared to October 2000 was 2,71%.
In particular, for October 2001, the category of Food & non-alcoholic beverages reached 117,11 units, Alcoholic beverages & tobacco 123,86 units, Clothing & Footwear 101,41 units, Housing, water, electricity & gas 110,24 units, Furnishings, household equipment & supplies 102,82 units, Health 116,73 units, Transport 107,87 units, Communications 83,83 units, Recreation & culture 100,78 units, Education 119,11 units, Restaurants & hotels 117,92 units και Miscellaneous goods & services 111,07 units.
