Authorities in Cyprus reported yesterday two more deaths from COVID-19 and 529 new cases out of a total of 47,181 tests carried out. The positivity rate stands at 1.12% while 210 patients are treated in hospital for the disease, 48 of whom in a serious condition.
The number of deaths has reached 266, 176 (66%) men and 90 (34%) women while the median age of the deceased is 79. The number of cases stands at 49,366 since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The deceased were a woman aged 83, with underlying health conditions who had received the first dose of the vaccine and passed away in Larnaca General Hospital and a man aged 42, who suffered from a very serious heart condition and passed away in Nicosia General Hospital, a Health Ministry press release says.
In total, 210 COVID-19 patients are receiving hospital care in state hospitals, while 48 of whom are in a serious condition. Twenty four are intubated, two are in an ICU but are breathing without the help of a ventilator and 22 are treated in an ACU.
A total of 47,181 tests were carried out yesterday, 3,661 by PCR method and 43,520 by rapid antigen method, detecting 529 new cases as follows:
Out of 756 samples taken in the context of contact tracing 132 people tested positive; out of 515 samples taken from passengers in Larnaca and Pafos airports 2 people tested positive; out of 1,909 samples tested privately 98 people were detected to be positive to the disease; out of 242 samples from the General Hospitals Microbiology labs 10 people tested positive; out of 239 samples taken following GP referrals or through the public health centres 2 people tested positive and out of 43,520 samples tested by antigen rapid test method 285 people tested positive.
