Deputy Minister: Tourism recovery will hugely depend on vaccinations

Cyprus Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, has said that tourism stakeholders both in Cyprus and abroad admit that tourism recovery, not only for this year but for the next years as well, will hugely depend on vaccinations.

In statements after the vaccination on Thursday of members of the Council of Ministers with the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Perdios said that vaccination is very important in order to get back to normality.

He went on to say that there will be more immunity as more people get vaccinated and the country will increase its potential for more tourist arrivals.

Perdios said that Cyprus' tourist partners abroad ask about the country`s epidemiological outlook, the number of tests which are carried out, the positivity rate and how many people will be vaccinated by the summer.

Responding to a question the Minister said it is impossible to make any predictions and estimations with regard to the tourist sector`s future, as the situation is constantly changing and air carriers and travel agents programmes are being cancelled.

Perdios noted that Cyprus has issued a protocol so that anyone can visit the country as long as he or she has done the necessary tests, and does not need to be self-isolated. Then of course we depend on the tourist advice issued by other countries, he concluded.
