Cabinet to take final decisions on Covid restrictions on Friday

22/04/2021 16:23

The Cabinet will take final decisions concerning restrictive measures in a new Cabinet meeting on Friday, Deputy Government Spokesman Panagiotis Sentonas said on Thursday.

In a written statement, Sentonas said the cabinet was briefed on Cyprus' epidemiological indices by the Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou but the government reserved its decisions on restrictive measures as the President will meet with the scientific advisory committee later on Thursday in a bid to listen to their views.

Cyprus’ epidemiological status deteriorated in the last days with new record daily cases while state hospitals are close to reaching their full capacity.

“In today’s meeting the Council of Ministers was briefed by the Minister of Health on the epidemiological situation and the development of epidemiological indices,” Sentons said, adding that no decisions were taken in view of the President’s meeting with the advisory committee.

Furthermore, Sentonas added that the President will also brief Friday the political party leaders during the meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President on the Cyprus problem.

“The final decisions will be taken by the Council of Ministers to be held tomorrow at 11:30 am,” Sentonas said.
