Cyprus reports two deaths and 77 new COVID-19 cases

Cyprus reported on Wednesday two deaths and 77 new COVID-19 cases while the Ministry of Health announced that 43 patients are getting treatment in hospitals. The total number of deaths stand at 367 and the total cases since the pandemic broke out at 72,996.  From the 43 citizens in hospitals, the 16 are in serious condition.

Today`s cases were detected from a total of 39,124 tests (rapid and PCR) and the positivity rate stands at 0,20%.

The deceased are a 78 years old man and a 69 years old woman, who passed away at the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital. From the 367 deaths, 244 are male  (66%) and 123 female (34%) and the median age is 77.4 years.

From the 16 people in serious condition in hospitals, 8 are intubated, 2 are in an ICU and 6 in ACU.

From the 39,124 tests the 4,956 were done with the PCR method and 34,168 were rapid and the new cases were detected as follows:

Twenty-nine (29) from 285 tests done in the framework of contact tracing, 6 from 2,409 tests done at airports, 1 from 136 tests done at Microbiology labs of General Hospitals, 1 from 175 samples taken on GP referrals or testing at public health centres, 1 from 424 rapid tests done at private labs and pharmacies and 29  cases from 33,744 rapid tests done in the framework of mass testing of population.
