Mortgage interest rate up in July

The interest rate on loans for house purchase followed an upward trend in July, while the interest rate on consumer credit dropped, according to data released Wednesday by the Central Bank of Cyprus, on interest rates on new deposit and loan contracts, including contracts which were renegotiated.

Total new loans decreased by €167.2 mn compared with June.

Regarding lending rates, the interest rate on consumer credit fell to 3.03% compared with to 3.14% in the previous month.

The interest rate on loans for house purchase rose to 2.21%, from 2.13% in the previous month.

The interest rate on loans to non-financial corporations for amounts up to €1 million increased to 3.30%, compared with 3.20% in the June. The interest rate on loans to non-financial corporations for amounts over €1 million registered remain unchanged at 3.16%.

The interest rate on deposits from households with an agreed maturity of up to one year remained unchanged from June at 0.07%, a historically low level.

The corresponding interest rate on deposits from non-financial corporations recorded a decrease to 0.06%, compared with 0.12% in the previous month.
