Employment in the broad public sector up 1%

The employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 706 persons (1,06%) in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter of 2016, according to data released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

The employment in the Broad Public Sector for the 4th quarter of 2017 was 67.266 persons. The employment in General Government was 61.394 and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies was 5.872. 
 
The General Government includes Government, Non-Profit Organisations and Local Authorities that employed 51.215, 5.963 and 4.216 persons respectively.
 
The employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 706 persons (1,06%) compared to the same quarter of 2016. The employment in Central Government increased by 873 persons (1,55%) while in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies decreased by 129 persons (-2,15%) and in Local Authorities by 38 persons (-0,89%).
 
Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2017, the employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 1.602 persons (2,44%). The employment in Central Government increased by 1.660 persons (2,99%) and in the Non-profit Organizations increased by 992 persons (19,96%) while in Local Authorities decreased by 46 persons (-1,08%).
