City of Dreams Mediterranean to revitalise Cyprus’ tourism and hospitality industry

Melco Cyprus, operator of the upcoming integrated resort (IR), City of Dreams Mediterranean, participated in the prestigious 12th Limassol Economic Forum on 22 October.

As one of Cyprus’ largest and most significant annual business gatherings, the event brought together political, economic, business and academic leaders from Cyprus and abroad to discuss current global business affairs and challenges.

Mr. Grant Johnson, Property General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, attended the Business Leaders Panel: Navigating the post-COVID-19 unknown, during which he referred to the challenges created by the pandemic for the tourism and hospitality sector, and highlighted the importance of City of Dreams Mediterranean in revitalising Cyprus’ tourism industry, as well as the role it has to play in the recovery of the country’s economy.

Mr. Johnson said, “The opening of the IR in 2022 will mark the start of a new era for Cyprus’ tourism and hospitality industry. It will be a project of unprecedent scale and ambition. The development will offer a unique combination of a luxury hotel, premium entertainment and sporting facilities, high-end retail stores and fine-dining restaurants – all of which will be built to Melco’s top international luxury standards. Furthermore, the IR’s MICE facilities will help establish Cyprus as a key meeting point for the region’s conference tourism, further diversifying the country’s tourism product and combating seasonality.

“City of Dreams Mediterranean will be a gamechanger for Cyprus’ tourism industry. By introducing a brand new, luxury experience, the project will bring additional visitors to the country, create thousands of job opportunities and contribute towards upgrading Cyprus’ tourism infrastructure to the highest standards – making a real and long-lasting impact to the Cypriot economy and society.”

City of Dreams Mediterranean is set to be Europe’s largest integrated resort and the first of its kind in Cyprus. Featuring a fourteen-storey, five-star hotel with more than 500 luxury guest rooms and suites, approximately 10,000 square meters of MICE space and sports facilities, an outdoor amphitheater, a family adventure park, and a variety of fine-dining outlets and luxury retail, the project is expected to become a gamechanger in the country’s tourism and entertainment sector and establish Cyprus as a year-round, global-standard premium tourist and business destination.
