Car sales race ahead

Car registrations rose for the eight consecutive month in August as consumers’ interest for new vehicles seems to be on the rise.

According to figures released today by Cystat, total registrations of saloon vehicles increased by 17.9% as they reached 1.489 in August 2015 from 1.263 in August of last year.

Saloon registrations are recording an increase since the beginning of the year.

Based on the same data, registrations of new saloon cars rose by 31% in August reaching 609 from 465 in August 2014.

Sales of used vehicles also recorded an increase, albeit lower.

Used vehicle registrations increased by 10.3% in August reaching 880 against 798 in the corresponding month of 2014.

In the period of January - August 2015, saloon car registrations rose by 16.1% overall, reaching 14.026 compared with 12.076 in the corresponding period of 2014.

The official data of the Statistical Service refer to all passenger saloon cars including private, taxi, rental, learner and invalid cars.

In the first eight months of the year, total vehicle registrations increased by 11.6% as they reached 16.799 compared to 15.052 in the corresponding period last year.
