Car sales remain significantly below 2019 levels

Vehicle sales in Cyprus continue their recovery in June following the slump during the two-month lockdown period to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, total vehicle sales in June amounted to 3,547, marking an increase of 14.2% compared with April. June marked a significant relaxation in lockdown measures in Cyprus.

However, compared with June 2019, total vehicle sales declined by 5.8%, marking an annual reduction for a third consecutive month.

Saloon car sales in June reached 2.621 representing 74% of total sales. Compared with the previous month, saloon car sales increased by 14.3%, while on an annual basis saloon car sales were down by 13%.

For the period of January – June total registrations of motor vehicles decreased by 25.3% to 17,525 in January-June 2020, from 23,449 in the respective period of last year.

Of the total passenger saloon cars, 5,004 or 36.7% were new and 8,629 or 63.3% were used cars, Cystat added.
