Luxury cars lead market

Luxury car imports fight for the leading position in car sales, despite the downturn in the sector. According to OEB figures for December 2008, BMW ranked first, since of the total 2,870 registrations (new and used), 468 were BMW, which holds a market share of 16.31%.

Mercedes ranked second (with a market share of 12.23% or 351), followed by Suzuki (302 or 10.52%) and Toyota.

Volkswagen hold 8.54% of the market share, while Nissan and Honda 7.74% and 5.37% respectively.

Fewer registrations were observed for Audi, Ford, Mazda, Peugeot, Mitsubishi and Opel.
