Motor vehicles registrations rise by 15.2%

Registration of motor vehicles rose by an annual 15.2% in the period of January – September 2018, data released by the Cyprus Statistical (Cystat) today show.

Sales of motor vehicles in January – September 2018 reached 32,833 compared with 37,817 in the respective period of last year.

Passenger saloon cars increased to 31,292, from 27,140 in January-September 2017, marking a rise of 15.3%.

Of the total passenger saloon cars, 10,554 or 33,7% were new and 20,738 or 66,3% were used, Cystat said.

The sale of commercial cars increased by 20.0% to 3,817 in January-September 2018, compared to 3,180 in January-September 2017.

Light goods vehicles increased by 22.3% to 3,274, from 2,676 in January-September 2017.

Heavy goods vehicles increased by 28.8% to 398 in January-September 2018, from 309 in January-September 2017.

Motorcycles below 50 cubic centimetres decreased by 1.4% to 215 in January-September 2018, compared to 218 in January-September 2017, whereas morotcycles with engines above 50cc increased by 4.6% to 2,001 in the first nine months of 2018, compared to 1,913 in the corresponding period of 2017.
