Saloon registrations rose in May

Saloon car registrations rose in May 2015 as buyers turned to new as well as to used vehicles.

Total saloon registrations recorded an annual increase of 7.9% as they reached 1.730 vehicles. In May 2014 saloon car registrations were at 1.604.

Based on new data released by the Statistical Service, registrations of new saloon cars rose by 7.4% in May 2015 to 843 from 785 in May 2014.

Registrations of used vehicles also increased.

Used vehicle registrations reached 887 in May 2015 against 819 in the corresponding month of 2014 recording an increase of 8.3%.

As for the first five months of 2015, saloon registrations, showed an overall increase of 15.9% as they reached 8.490 compared to 7.328 in the corresponding period of 2014.

Registrations of new saloon cars rose by 10.6% in the first five months while used cars were up by 20.8%.

Official figures released today by the Statistical Service, cover all passenger saloon cars instead of just private saloon cars, as the data published previously.

Statistics Assistant Andri Milidonis, told StockWatch that the new data include passenger, educational, invalid, taxis and rental saloon cars. Previously, Cystat data included only passenger, educational cars and invalid carriages.

Excluding taxis and rental vehicles, private saloon registrations reached 1,613 vehicles in May 2015 compared to 1,454 in May 2014 which corresponds to an increase of 10.9%.
