Saloon registrations surge

Total motor vehicles registration for the period of January – September 2017 spiked 29.4% reaching 32,833 compared with 25,375 in the respective period of 2016, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) show.

According to Cystat, saloon cars had the lion’s share with 27,140 sales that amount to 82.77% of total registrations.

Total new motor vehicles registrations for the period of January – September 2018 amounted to 12,273 which corresponds to 38% of total registrations, whereas used vehicles registration reached 19,030 or 58% of total registrations.

New saloon car sales reached 10,362 in the period of January – September 2017 marking an increase of 7.15% compared with 9,670 in the respective year of 2016.

Used saloon cars amounted to 16,778 marking an increase of 48% compared with the period of January – September 2016.

Registration of commercial cars and trucks for the period of January – September 2017 reached 3,180 up by 45.30%, compared with 2,188 in the respective period of 2016.

Scooter sales (below 50 cc) for the period of January – September 2017 rose by 24.6% to 218 from 175 the year before.

According to Cystat, registration of motorcycles above 50 cc in January – September 2017 rose by 6.3% to 1,913 compared with 1,800 in the respective period of 2016.
