Saloon registrations surge 35%

Car registrations recorded a remarkable increase in September 2015, rising for nine consecutive months, as consumers’ interest boosted sales for new and used vehicles.

According to figures released today by Cystat, total registrations of saloon vehicles increased by 35.2% as they reached 2.044 in September 2015 from 1.512 in September last year.

Saloon registrations are recording an increase since the beginning of the year.

Based on the same data, registrations of new saloon cars rose by 35.4% in September reaching 907 from 670 in September 2014.

Sales of used vehicles also increased significantly as they increased by 35% in September reaching 1.137 against 842 in the corresponding month of 2014.

In the period of January - September 2015, saloon car registrations rose by 18.3% overall, reaching 16.070 compared with 13.588 in the corresponding period of 2014. New cars reached 7.421 or 46.2% and used cars reached 8.649 corresponding to 53.8%.

The official data of the Statistical Service refer to all passenger saloon cars including private, taxi, rental, learner and invalid cars.

In the first nine months of the year, total car registrations increased by 13.6% as they reached 19.307 compared 16.994 in the corresponding period last year.
