Saloon sales jump

Total motor vehicles registration jumped by 34.2% in the first half of 2017 reaching 22,157 compared with 16,506 in the respective period of 2016, the Cyprus Statistical Service said on Monday.

The annual rise is mainly attributed to the increase in passenger cars sales which accounted for 82.5% of total vehicle registration.

Passenger cars registration rose by 34% reaching 18,290, from 13.646 in January-June 2016. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 7,561 or 41,3% were new and 10.729 or 58.7% were used cars.

Commercial vehicles sales increased by 55.8% to 2,164 in January-June 2017, compared to 1,389 in the respective period of 2016.

Light goods vehicles increased by 49.3% to 1,797, from 1,204 in January-June 2016.

Heavy goods vehicles increased by 55.7% to 218 in January-June 2017 from 140 in January-June 2016.

Road tractors rose to 149 in January-June 2017, from 45 in January-June 2016.

Scooters sales increased to 149 in January-June 2017, compared to 126 in January-June 2016.

Motorcycles increased by 7,8% to 1.294 in the first six months of 2017, compared to 1.200 in the corresponding period of 2016.
