Total registrations of motor vehicles down by 6.1%

Total registrations of motor vehicles decreased by 6.1% to 35.499 in January-September 2019, from 37.817 vehicles in the same period of 2018, the Statistical Service said on Wednesday.
 
Passenger saloon cars decreased to 28.761, from 31.292 in January-September 2018, a decrease of 8.1%, Cystat said. “Of the total passenger saloon cars, 9.783 or 34.0% were new and 18.978 or 66.0% were used cars”, it added.
 
It said that “goods conveyance vehicles increased by 8.6% to 4.147 in January-September 2019 compared with 3.817 in January-September 2018. Light goods vehicles increased by 8.7% to 3.558, heavy goods vehicles by 10.3% to 439 and road tractors (units of trailers) by 3.4% to 150”.
 
Mopeds < 50cc increased by 7.9% to 232 in January-September 2019 compared with 215 in the same period last year, while mechanised cycles > 50cc decreased by 5.0% to 1.900 in the first nine months of 2019, compared with 2.001 in the corresponding period of 2018.
