Vehicle registrations up 29.1% in 2017

Total vehicle registrations was up by 29.1% in 2017 compared to 2016, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Wednesday, show.

According to the data registrations of motor vehicles increased to 43,640 in January-December 2017, compared to 33,805 vehicles in the same period of 2016.

At the same time saloon cars increased to 36,067, from 27,956 in 2016, also recording an increase of 29%. 13,118 saloon cars or 36.4% were new and 22,949 or 63.6% were used.

Coaches and buses registered in 2017 increased to 200, up from 133 in the previous year.

Goods conveyance vehicles were also up by 43.1% to 4,396 in 2017, compared to 3,072 in 2016.

Light goods vehicles increased by 44.6% to 3,738 in 2017, up from 2,585 in 2016. Heavy goods vehicles also increased by 37.4% to 408 in 2017, from 297 in the previous year. Tractors or trailer units increased by 31.6% to 250 in 2017, from 190 in 2016.

Mopeds < 50cc increased by 32.3% to 254 in January-December 2017, compared to 192 in January-December 2016. Motorbikes > 50cc increased by 5.7% to 2,435 in 2017, compared to 2,303 in 2016.
 
EU member countries were the main suppliers of motor vehicles in Cyprus during 2017. The EU accounted for 58.1% of the total registrations, while Japan΄s share stood at 28.5%.
