Vehicle sales decline by almost 5% in January – September 2021

Vehicle sales in Cyprus declined by almost 5% in the period of January – September 2021 year on year, as September has registered the fifth consecutive annual reduction in vehicle registration.

According to data published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), total vehicle registration for January – September 2021 declined by 4.8% to 27,699 compared with 29,106 in the respective period of last year.

Passenger saloon cars for the same period declined by 4.9% to 21,336 compared with 22,455 in the period of January – September 2020.

Of the total saloon cars registered in January – September 2021 8,576 or 40.2% were new cars and 12,760 or 59.8% were used, Cystat added.

According to the data, new car registration in January – September 2021 amounted to 12,810 marking an increase of 12.8% year on year, while used car sales drooped by an annual 19.5% to 14,889.

For September total vehicles sales amounted to 3,327 marking a reduction of 19.6% year on year, with saloon car sales dropping by 19.5% to 2,561.
