World Bank and EU become observers at East Mediterranean Gas Forum

The World Bank and the European Union have become observers of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, during the 5th Ministerial Meeting which took place online on Tuesday, with the participation of Cyprus Energy, Commerce and Industry Minister Natasa Pilides.

Members of the Forum are currently Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan and Palestine, while the US is taking part as an observer.

In a joint declaration the eight Energy Ministers taking part in the Forum  "reaffirm their determination to continue to work to achieve the Forum`s goals, fully respecting the rights of its members over their natural resources and in accordance with international law," an Energy Ministry press release says.

It is further noted that during the ministerial meeting the World Bank and the European Union were accepted to take part in the EMGF as observers, that all members signed an agreement that the Forum`s seat will be in Cairo, while its official website (https://emgf.org/) was also launched.

It was agreed that the next ministerial meeting will take place in Cairo in the last quarter of 2021, the press release says.
