DISY criticizes AKEL but gives time to FinMin

Cyprus right wing party, DISY, supports that the island lies in front of a serious fiscal crisis, which needs to be reversed the soonest possible.

Within the framework of a press conference, MP and Member of the House Finance Committee, Prodromos Prodromou, criticized AKEL for contributing in the diversion of the tax reform, extending budget deficit and creating inflationary tensions.

However, DISY seems to be willing to give more time to the Finance Minister, Marcos Kyprianou, so long as he will adopt and apply the pre-accession program set by the government few months ago.

Mr. Prodromou noted that the Finance Minister is expected to propose a development economic policy and rejected AKEL’s criticisms on the policy of the former government, which had been congratulated by the European Union.

Responding on the question how Cyprus will deal with the accession problem if there is no improvement on its economic indices, Mr. Prodromou said that the Republic will run the risk of being the ‘black ship; of the EU. “This means that the island will proceed to loaning, which will burden the development of economy”, he concluded.
