Having as a “weapon” the climate of consensus on the new fiscal consolidation measures, House President, Yiannakis Omirou, had a meeting with representatives of the European Commission and observers of the European Central Bank today.

After the end of the meeting, the House President said that the representatives visited Cyprus in order to examine the condition of the economy and to ascertain whether measures are taken for its improvement.

Mr. Omirou noted that he have all necessary information to the EC representatives not only for the measures that were taken in the past but also those that the Parliament will adopt after the meeting at the Presidential Palace.

“The political forces represented in Parliament are unanimous to the main measures that will be included in the bills to be submitted by the government”, he said.

“The EC representatives did not express their disagreement with the measures but it is especially interested in the measures that will be taken for the reduction of the fiscal deficit and the public debt”, Mr. Omirou concluded.
