Trade deficit widens

Trade deficit was up by 12.6% in the first six months of this year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.

On the basis of the Statistical Service’s publication “Intra-Extra EU Trade Statistics” for the period of January – June 2017 total imports in January-June 2017 amounted to €3,681.0 mn as compared to €3,552.3 mn in January- June 2016.

Total exports in January- June 2017 were €1,319.0 mn compared to €1,454.4 mn in January-June 2016.

The trade deficit was €2,361.9 mn in January- June 2017 compared to €2,097.9 mn in the same period of 2016, recording an increase of 12.6%.

At the same time, total exports of domestically produced goods, excluding stores and provisions, in January- June 2017 were €621.6 mn compared to €439.4 mn in the first six months of 2016.

Total domestic exports of industrial products in January- June 2017 were €552.8 mn compared to €363.9 mn in January-June 2016.

Total domestic exports of agricultural products in January- June 2017 were €65.4 mn compared to €69.7 mn at the same period last year.
