03/06/2003 09:00
The European Commission is expected to adopt the package of measures on Tuesday for the promotion of development in the occupied areas of northern Cyprus and the rapprochement between the two communities on the island.

According to Brussels, the European Union will grant twelve million euros in total, nine of which will be allocated to economic development programs and three to rapprochement programs. The EU will offer its aid for the facilitation of trading from the occupied territories to the European Union.

Meanwhile, the National Council that convened on Monday afternoon did not discuss the T/C supportive measures, while President Papadopoulos merely informed the members on his contacts in Athens and the latest developments on the Cyprus problem.

It is noted that the former Cyprus President, Glafcos Clerides, did not attend the meeting.
