More than half a million Greek and Turkish Cypriots have crossed either side of the island, since the T/C leader, Rauf Denktash, partially lifted the restrictions on the movement to and from the occupied areas. The total number of G/C and T/C that crossed the designated checkpoints has reached 504.689, 337.484 of which were G/C and 167.205 were T/C.

The total number of T/C that visit the free areas of the Republic on a daily basis has showed a slight increase, while the G/C crossings in the occupied territories have dropped.

On Tuesday, a total 6,891 G/C and T/C have crossed into either side, 3,106 of which were G/C and 3,785 T/C. Specifically, 310 G/C and 2,082 T/C have visited either side from Ledra Palace checkpoint, 519 G/C and 980 T/C from Pergamos, 682 G/C and 114 T/C from Strovilia and 1,595 G/C and 609 T/C from the checkpoint of Ayios Dometios.

A police announcement states that 4 T/C were not allowed to pass into the free areas due to their failure to prove that they were T/C. The police in cooperation with the customs have once again seized two bottles of whiskey and 56 packs of cigarettes.

Meanwhile, according to the T/C newspaper “Afrika”, despite the partial lifting of restrictions, the T/C regime does not allow the G/C journalists to cross into the occupied territories with their cameras.
