Greek FM: Meeting on Cyprus in March

07/02/2017 09:16
Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias referred to the chance of a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the guarantor powers in Cyprus, the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the representative of the Turkish Cypriot community, speaking to the press in Brussels, where he took part at the External Affairs Council of the EU 28.

"Yes, we will probably have in the second half of March a meeting of Foreign Ministers regarding the guarantor powers, the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the representative of the Turkish Cypriot community," replied N.Kotzias referring to the meeting held last Friday with Special Representative of the Secretary-General Espen Barth Eide.

He also noted that his contacts with Eide are “always of great interest and last for several hours."

However Kotzias pointed out that the Council did not discuss today the issues of Turkey and the Aegean sea dispute.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Anastasiades and Akinci have been engaged in UN-led negotiations since May 2015, with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
