Almost half a million Greek and Turkish Cypriots crossed the checkpoints since the Turkish Cypriot leadership partially lifted the restrictions to the free movement of people across the dividing line.

On Sunday, a total 16,316 G/C and T/C visited either side of the island compared to 10,813 on Saturday and 7,925 on Friday.

Specifically, 1,459 crossed into Northern Cyprus from Ledra Palace checkpoint, 2,008 from Pergamos, 2,347 from Strovilia and 1,881 from the checkpoint of Ayios Dometios (total 11.041 G/C).

The total number of T/C that visited the free areas of the Republic was 5,275, 2,169 of which crossed into through Ledra Palace, 681 from Pergamos, 544 from Strovilia and 1,881 from Ayios Dometios.

A police announcement states that 21 T/C were not allowed to pass into the free areas due to their failure to prove that they were T/C, while the T/C regime has illegally arrested two G/C, accused for fishing illegally.

Meanwhile, the police have once again tracked down 10 G/C that illegally possessed 62 packs of cigarettes and four bottles of whiskey.
