Leaders commitment to find solution

UN Secretary General`s Spokesman Stephane Dujarric referred on Monday to a dinner Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci had on Sunday evening, noting that they reconfirmed their joint commitment to finding a solution in the best interest of all Cypriots, taking into account the concerns of both communities.

According to a Press and Information Office (PIO) press release in the context of a noon briefing yesterday Dujarric said that “yesterday evening, the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Ak?nc?, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Anastasiades, held an open and constructive exchange about the challenges experienced over the last months.”

“The two leaders reconfirmed their joint commitment to finding a solution in the best interest of all Cypriots, taking into account the concerns of both communities,” he added.

They also exchanged ideas about the way ahead, Dujarric pointed out.

“The Secretary-General’s Special Adviser, Espen Barth Eide, will continue to be in touch with the leaders to lay the groundwork to resume the negotiations as soon as possible,” he concluded.
