As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, Alpha Bank is an active participant in the cultural happenings of the country, declaring its interest for Art and Culture, supporting activities and events which aim to maintain and promote our cultural heritage. One such activity was the Bank’s participation, as one of the main sponsors, of a significant exhibition on the subject of Shadow Puppetry and Karaghiozis which was organized by the Children’s Museum and the Sofia Foundation on the occasion of World Museum Day.

Cyprus Children’s Museum is a beneficial non-profit organization founded in 1998 with the aim of helping children develop their creative skills and grow into self respecting citizens with a social conscience, actively participating in the cultural zeitgeist.

The Sofia Foundation is in possession of one of the greatest toy collections in the world, a rich collectibles anthology and unique historical relics. The Foundation’s aim is the provision for future generations, awareness creation through the teachings of history and the promotion of children’s creative and free expression without neglecting their entertainment.

The exhibition will last from the 16th to the 25th of May 2012 and includes unique exhibits from the collection of the Sofia Foundation, entertaining activities and many surprises. Several Karaghiozi shows will take place during the exhibition performed by Karaghiozi artist Mr. Spiropoulos. There will also be a gift shop of collectible items and mementos with Karaghiozi illustrations drawn by the famous Cypriot engraver Chambis, created especially for this exhibition, at low prices with the aim of financially supporting the Cyprus Children’s Museum.

The exhibition opening took place on Wednesday May 16th 2012 at the Melina Merkouri exhibition space next to the Famagusta Gate in Nicosia.
