As part of its participation in the European Mobility Week and on the occasion of September “Leukemia Awareness Month”, Cyprus Public Transport invited the residents of Nicosia and Larnaca to take part in a different action. Thanks to their help, the amount of €10,650 was collected and it was allocated for addressing the needs of Karaiskakio Foundation. Cyprus public Transport CEO Julio Tironi, handed the cheque with the amount collected over to Dr. Pavlos Costeas, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The action involved using CPT buses on Saturday 18/09/2021, which marked this year’s World Volunteer Bone Marrow Donor Day. All proceeds from the tickets sold on this day for traveling with the buses of Cyprus Public Transport were offered in order to support the work of Karaiskakio Foundation.

The aim of this action, which also spread the message of this year’s European Mobility Week “Move Sustainably. Stay Healthy.”, to raise awareness among citizens concerning the use of alternative means of transport. Everyone's wish is that Cyprus will build a “greener” culture regarding urban mobility. It is worth noting that, since 2002, the European Mobility Week initiative, has sought to improve public health and quality of life through promoting clean mobility and sustainable urban transport.

September has been established worldwide as “Leukemia Awareness Month” with the aim of raising awareness and informing the public about leukemia and other haematological malignancies. The World Volunteer Bone Marrow Donor Day is celebrated to honor bone marrow donors, but also to properly inform the public about the importance of voluntary bone marrow donation.

Both Cyprus Public Transport and Karaiskakio Foundation expressed their delight with the participation of the public and they would like to thank all those who contributed to Karaiskakio Foundation and its fight for a world full of children's smiles.
