  • With 28 electric vans in total, the company’s goal is to renew 90% of its fleet by 2024

By acquiring 17 additional Mercedes eSprinter electric vans on the 16th of November, the first phase of DHL Express Cyprus’s gradual fleet renewal was completed, with friendlier to the environment vehicles. It is worth noting that this was preceded by the acquisition of 11 Mercedes eVito electric vans this summer from CIC Ltd.

The 28 new vehicles are part of DHL’s broader plan for the protection of the environment, with the total investment amount reaching 1.6 million euros, including the infrastructure (chargers and solar panels) installed at all DHL stations. The majority of the vans will be located at the Limassol facilities, where solar panels have already been installed to generate energy and cover the demand for the vans’ charging. The company’s aim is to renew 90% of its fleet with electric vans by 2024.

Mr. Piripitsis, General Manager of DHL Express Cyprus, stated: “As the No1 logistics company in Cyprus and in the world, we are constantly moving on earth and sky, transporting the wishes and needs of consumers and businesses. This movement leaves its footprint on the environment. As a company with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility, we want to reduce this footprint as much as possible. With the acquisition of 28 vans until today, we are renewing our fleet in a major way, drastically decreasing emissions while at the same time upgrading our services and significantly improving our drivers’ working conditions”.

DHL Express Cyprus follows the global GO GREEN initiative, which aims to eliminate the company's carbon dioxide footprint by 2050.
