17/01/2020 15:48

DP World Limassol has had constructive dialogue with the Minister of Transport Communications and Works today. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the facts and the practical, pragmatic approach DP World Limassol adopts for cruise ships berthing procedures at the Limassol Port.

DP World Limassol wishes to clarify the following:

DP World Limassol places high priority on the cruise industry and the needs of its customers whilst working in partnership to resolve any challenges for its customers and partners. As a direct result of our targeted marketing campaigns and collaboration with relevant cruise stakeholders this has enabled us to secure new cruise lines for 2019 onwards and an increase of over 40% compared to previous years’ cruise bookings. The Company focuses on delivering a premium service to all customers and it operates within the parameters of running a multipurpose port, continuing to deliver economic value to the region through servicing various industries and other ports users. Various issues are being examined on cruise berthing/s, in order to ensure that DP World Limassol delivers a safe and high quality customer experience together with taking into consideration the operations and capacity of the Multipurpose terminal.

The company following some certain procedures has rescheduled cruise vessels to either a day before or a day after their initial request for berthing. Furthermore, the company will serve more than 2 cruise vessels in one day based on certain conditions; for 2020 cruise bookings there are specific days where the company will serve 3 and 4 cruise vessels on the same day.

DP World Limassol has established various issues before confirmation of berthing ranging from operational efficiency, top class customer experience and safety.

More specifically we take into consideration:

  • The guest experience that can be provided. DP World Limassol is committed to deliver a world-class experience to its customers. By enforcing this policy long waiting lines are avoided while availability and quality of transportation as all guests will be disembarking / embarking on/about the same time are ensured, among others.
  • Cruise passengers which can safely be accommodated through the terminal and still be provided with a guest experience that will highlight Cyprus hospitality.
  • The smooth and safe operation of other parts of the port that require the berthing of ships at DP World Limassol terminal and contribute in covering the commercial needs of Cyprus’ citizens and economy.

Over the past three years, ever since DP World Limassol has been the operator of the Multi-purpose and Limassol Cruise Terminal at the Limassol port, it has invested heavily to attract and promote cruise business in Limassol. In addition, DP World Limassol was recently been honored with the “Most Efficient Cruise Terminal” in the maiden MedCruise Awards further exceeding customer expectations in terms of service standards.

Cyprus has solid prospects for growth and DP World Limassol focuses its efforts in establishing Cyprus as an attractive destination in cooperation with the relevant Government departments transforming the port into a port of choice by cruise lines and visitors, while at the same time offering a world-class experience to our customers and ensuring multiple benefits for the local economy.
