Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, opened its new offices in Nicosia, further extending its presence in Cyprus and reflecting its commitment to strengthening relations with its corporate and leisure guests and supporting the local travel trade.

The offices were opened by the Minister for Energy, Commerce, Industry & Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, joined by Etihad Airways’ Vice President Europe, Mr. Joost den Hartog, and a number of government officials, businessmen and members of the press.

Mr. Lakkotrypis said: “The national airline of the UAE chose to invest in the Cypriot economy at a truly critical time, greatly supporting the growth of business and leisure traffic, not only between Cyprus and the UAE, but also between Cyprus and a wide range of destinations around the world. I would like to congratulate Etihad Airways for its achievements during the past six years of operation in Cyprus.”

The airline’s Cyprus commercial team, which has been operating from offices in Larnaca for the past six years, will now move to the new offices, strategically located in the centre of the Cypriot capital.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. Abdelwahab Nasir Al Najjar, the UAE Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr Ammar Omar Al Breiki (Attache) said that Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates have always enjoyed strong business and cultural relations, and that Etihad Airways plays a key role in further strengthening these commercial and social ties.

Mr. Joost den Hartog said: “The launch of the new offices and the relocation of our commercial team to Nicosia makes sound business sense. It will bring us closer to our corporate customers and travel trade partners while also reflecting our commitment to growing our operations in Cyprus.

Etihad Airways’ General Manager for Cyprus, Mr. Abdelrahman Al Suwaidi, added: “During our six years of operation in the Cyprus market, we have experienced positive growth and enhanced cooperation with the local travel industry. Moving to Nicosia, which is the country’s main financial and international business centre, is an opportunity to further grow our business with existing and new partners.”

Etihad Airways commenced operations between Abu Dhabi and Larnaca in June 2009 and since then has demonstrated commitment to Cyprus, supporting the growth of business and leisure traffic via Abu Dhabi, and offering travellers a greater choice of destinations across the Gulf region, Indian Sub-continent, Asia and Australia.

Etihad Airways operates a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft to Cyprus, configured to carry 136 passengers, with 16 seats in Business Class and 120 in Economy Class. Flight EY093 flies every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It departs from Abu Dhabi at 10:10 and arrives in Larnaca at 13:35. The return flight, EY094, departs from Larnaca at 14:30 and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 19:30 local time.
